Letter: Global cooperation only way to reduce oil use

Fossil fuels are a necessity for many reasons, even if it has a dire effect on global warming. Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, is dependent on oil for: gasoline; fuel to generate electricity; transportation and industrial vehicles; and heating.
