A lieutenant at the Waiawa Correctional Facility pled not guilty Thursday morning to a reckless endangerment charge.
Damon Pavao was in front of Judge Richard Perkins for arraignment and plea.
He faced reckless endangerment and two drug charges.
He’s free on $25,000 bail.
The charges stem from an incident last Wednesday, in which gunshots were fired, leading police to shut down Waimano Home Road and access to Pacific Palisades for more than two hours.
Police negotiated with Pavao to surrender and he eventually did.
Pavao has been with the Department of Public Safety since 1998.
He is on unpaid leave.
