Man found guilty of murdering woman at Kalihi housing project

It was a tearful day in court as a jury found a Makiki man guilty of murder in the death of a woman at a Kalihi housing project.

It took the jury one day to come to its decision.

Unanimously they found Corbit Ahn guilty of both second degree murder and third degree sexual assault.

Ahn stood silent and showed little emotion as the verdict was read.

It was two and a half years ago when the body of 18-year-old Iris Rodrigues-Kaikana was found in an alleyway next to the Kamehameha homes housing project.

Her father says justice has finally been served.

But Ahn’s family believes her murderer is still out there.

"For the hole he did on her neck and the evidence they found, DNA, there was only one guy who had big hands enough to grab my daughter, she was only 5 feet 2 100 pounds to grab her and squeeze her and bust her neck that bad, no one else could do that," says Steven Rodrigues, father of Iris Rodrigues-Kaikana.

"I don’t believe my son is capable of doing what they’re saying that he’s doing I believe the investigation was botched, I’m waiting for our time again and I hope an appeal is coming and that he’ll see the day of light and the truth actually comes forward," says Cynthia Ahn, Mother of Corbit Ahn.

Prosecutors say they will be seeking an extended sentence for Ahn – of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Sentencing is scheduled for the beginning of July.
