Hawaii participating in National Take Back program

HONOLULU (AP) – Hawaii residents are encouraged to discard their expired and unused prescription medications as part of the National Take Back Initiative.

On April 28, the Department of the Attorney General, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and State Narcotics Enforcement Division, will have collection points on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii islands.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., participants can drop off their old medications anonymously, with no questions asked.

Since September 2010, the state has collected nearly 4,300 pounds unwanted prescription medications. The agencies note prescription drugs should be discarded after they are no longer needed to treat the illnesses for which they were prescribed.
