Sunetric launches "Foam Free Hawaii" campaign

Sunetric, Hawaii’s leading solar design and installation company, is spearheading an effort to reduce the use of Styrofoam in local communities with its "Foam Free Hawaii" campaign, an effort aimed at featuring local restaurants and food establishments that do not use Styrofoam packaging.

"Sunetric’s "Foam Free Hawaii" campaign perfectly aligns with our company’s goal of creating a greener Hawaii by recognizing local food establishments that lead by example" said Sunetric CEO Alex Tiller. "We hope this award will become something that patrons look for when deciding where to eat, and we hope other food establishments will make a change in their food packaging materials so that it will help bring attention to their patrons the value of more sustainable life styles and habits."

The "Foam Free Hawaii" campaign began when Tiller came home from dinner one day and tossed another bunch of Styrofoam containers in the trash. "I looked at the discarded containers and I realized I was part of the problem, and that I needed to think twice where and how I spent my money. The next day I enlisted the considerable voice that Sunetric has in the community to create awareness and take a stand against the senseless use of these containers in Hawaii and to help us all find restaurants that share our values" said Tiller.

Since then, over the past several months, Sunetric has been engaging with customers and fans on its social media sites and talking to environmental groups to identify their favorite Styrofoam free restaurants. Sunetric has developed a list of over 40 Styrofoam-free restaurants and is recognizing each restaurant with an eco-friendly award, and a sticker decal each restaurant may proudly display to inform their patrons of their commitment to using environmentally friendly products. Sunetric has also utilized their social media sites (Facebook and Twitter), blog and website to raise awareness about establishments that are "Foam Free" and publicly thanking them for their commitment to eliminating Styrofoam from being used in Hawaii.
