The Blood Bank of Hawaii opens new donor center

The Blood Bank of Hawaii opened its new Young Street donor center this morning.

The building, which is nearly 9,000 square feet, includes a 12-bed facility for donors.

The new location will also serve as an alternate distribution site if its dillingham location becomes inoperable during a disaster.

"Right now all of our blood is stored in our Dillingham facility and so now we have the opportunity to have another monitored site here and so we can store part of the blood here and part there," says Robyn Yim, Blood Bank of Hawaii President.

The new building also includes much-needed office space, allowing the Dillingham site to expand its laboratory services.
