Whole Foods to open third location in Hawaii next week

Whole Foods is set to open its third location in Hawaii next week Wednesday.
The Kailua store features something no other whole foods market has.

At 33,500 square feet, whole foods market in Kailua will be slightly bigger than the Kahala and Kahului, Maui stores. What also sets it apart from the other two is that it will have a wine and beer bar, serving local beers on tap along with natural and organic wines by the glass. It could very well enhance the grocery shopping experience. but what makes this store unique from any other store in the country is a self serve poke bar.

"So customers will be able to dish up the poke as they like. we’ll have six to ten varieties on any given day and it’s made with fresh, never frozen, local ahi," says Dabney Gough, marketing supervisor.

Whole Foods is known for offering organic, local, and natural products. And in order to do that, it has formed several partnerships with local suppliers.

"In Hawaii, we have at least 280 local growers and suppliers that we work with and at this store we plan to have a really wonderful representation of local," says Robin Burton, Associates Store team leader.

As far as prices are concerned, the store says there are good values by checking out the bulk section which is also unique to this store. There are certain items that can be bought in measured amounts by the pound.

"Some bulk spices, bulk salt, bulk peppercorns, those are gonna be unique to the store. And speaking of bulk, it’s also gonna be another great way to shop for value because you can get just the amount that you want," says Burton.

Doors are set to open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday the 18th. A brief ceremony will be followed by tastings and giveaways. The store is also forming partnerships to help non-profit organizations in the area.
