UPDATE: Suspect who prompted UH security alert apprehended

UPDATE: As of 2:30 p.m. UH security says the suspect was apprehended by police off campus. An all clear has been issued. Crisis counseling is available, call 956-7927.

UPDATE: The suspect male has been spotted at the Hawaiian Studies loi on Dole Street. Stay away from the area.

A photo of the individual being sought, Jason Nishiki, is posted at www.hawaii.edu/security/.  

Suspect is described as 5’3", 110 lbs., 20 years old, Japanese male, buzz cut. Last seen wearing black/blue long sleeve button down shirt, grey slacks, black shoes, with bag, possible beenie.

Authorities say he is distraught and may be armed.  

Do not approach him.  

Call HPD at 911 or UH Manoa Campus Security at 956-6911.

Honolulu police and UH Manoa Campus Security are alerting the public about a report of a distraught man who may be armed with a weapon.

The suspect is described as an Asian male approximately 5’7" tall, wearing black and blue long-sleeve shirt, dark shorts and a baseball cap, and carrying a blue backpack.

Until this situation has been declared safe by HPD, the public is urged to stay away from Manoa Stream behind East-West Center, Waahila Faculty Housing and School of Hawaiian Knowledge. If you see this person or anything suspicious, call 911 for HPD or 956-6911 immediately.
