As the rabbi of Temple Emanu-El in Honolulu, I read the recent letter regarding the menorah in Waikiki with deep concern and sadness (“Waikiki not the place to display religious symbol,” Star-Advertiser, Dec. 23). I write not to inflame, but to clarify, to humanize, and to remind our community of the values we claim to hold dear in Hawaii: pluralism, aloha and respect.
