Letter: Long-term support vital to health of isles’ aging

A recent article by Victoria Budiono chronicles the “silver tsunami” of ever- increasing need for services, insufficient resources and unsustainable costs that threaten to overwhelm us (“Hawaii doctors warn aging crisis is outpacing geriatric care system,” Star-Advertiser, March 9). Health care in Hawaii and across the nation is still largely reactive. Most health care resources go to treating maladies after they materialize. This is especially evident for geriatric care and long-term services and supports (LTSS).
