Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and the whole Disney gang pulled into port in Honolulu Sunday as part of the Disney Wonder’s inaugural voyage to the Hawaiian Islands.
"We’ve been in operation for nearly a decade and when our guests found out this cruise was going to Hawaii it sold out quickly," said Christian Abbot, Disney Wonder Cruise Director.
The ship is on a special 15-night cruise that stopped in Hilo, Kahului and Honolulu and now heads to Nawiliwili on Kauai, giving guests the chance to explore the second happiest place on Earth.
"We just did a waterfall hike, we were on Maui, took the road to Hana, the day before that we were in Hilo," said Nikki Flack, passenger from Utah.
The Disney Wonder brought in 2,700 passengers and 950 crew members, all eager to sightsee and spend during their stop-overs.
"We’re going to head out and do Pearl Harbor and then head into Waikiki do some shopping and grab some food," said Rick Flack, passenger from Utah. "Hawaii is a great place to spend money."
Something the state and city are welcoming with open arms.
"First by land with the Aulani, then by sea, the Wonder, if this is in fact an invasion by Disney it is an extremely welcome one," said Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle.
The 83,000 gross ton ship has 11 passenger decks, 877 staterooms, multiple pools, theaters, adult only areas, a salon and spa with signature treatments and 6 different dining areas.
"So many have never traveled to Hawaii, so to be here on the inaugural cruise, the excitement is on the air and the guests are visibly buzzing about how unique and exciting it is to be a part of this first with Disney Cruise Line," Lesley Dallas, Disney Wonder Assistant Cruise Director.
On-board this ship there are several Captains, not only the Captain that steers the boat but Captain Hook, Captain Jack Sparrow and the always loveable Captain Mickey. Along with Disney character interactions, fun is always afloat for the kids.
"We have more counselors, more activities and more hours of operation than any other cruise line in the world as far as it comes to children programming, activities and events," said Abbott.
And this isn’t the last we’ll see of the ship – it will return to Hawaii for a second time in October. Future Disney cruises to Hawaii have not yet been announced.
