The 9th graders from Kamehameha schools headed to the Waikalua loko fishpond in Kaneohe.
They had different tasks…all related to getting rid of the invasive mangrove, and figuring out the impact of the trees on the pond.
"So hopefully they learn that one they can give back to the community and give back to the aina by coming out here and helping and studying it and maybe in the future even returning not only to remove the mangrove but to take part and what they can do to make it a productive pond," says Donna Tully, Kamehameha Schools biology teacher.
College students from Windward Community college worked side-by side with the high school students.
