A Kīlauea man died early this morning following a single car collision on Kūhi‘ō Highway near the Coconut Marketplace in Wailua.
He was identified as 23-year-old Bruce Perdue.
According to a preliminary report, Perdue was heading north on Kūhi‘ō Highway at about 2:30 a.m. when his gray Hyundai sedan struck a utility pole along the northbound shoulder.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kūhi‘ō Highway was closed until about 8:07 a.m. while police conducted an investigation and utility crews replaced the downed pole that was blocking the highway.
There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision and no other injuries reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
Perdue is Kaua’i’s third traffic fatality so far this year.
