The State Insurance Division has approved a rate hike request from HMSA.
The 2.6 percent increase will affect group plans that cover 117,000 Hawaii residents, and will take effect on July 1st.
HMSA initially applied for a 3.9 percent increase, but later amended its request after the state insurance division requested additional information and questioned the medical cost trend.
The average rate increase between 2007 and 2010 was 9.3 percent.
