Coast Guard to medevac cruise passenger to Kona

HONOLULU (AP) – U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crews are heading to a cruise ship off Hawaii’s Big Island to medevac a passenger from Poland suffering from pneumonia.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Anthony Soto says a helicopter is on its way Friday to deliver oxygen to the 35-year-old woman and another helicopter will transport her to Kona Community Hospital.

Cruise ship staff told the Coast Guard they’re running out of oxygen for the woman. The ship was originally headed to Honolulu but will now go to the Big Island.

Soto did not immediately know the name of the cruise line or where the cruise started.
