TRAFFIC ALERT: Busy Waikiki weekend

It’s going to be a busy weekend in Waikiki

Thousands of people are expected to pack Waikiki for three separate events.

The first takes place on Friday night.

The 33rd Annual Pan-Pacific Matsuri Waikiki Ho’olaulea is expected to attract more than 30,000 participants.

Traffic will be diverted starting 4:30 p.m. Friday for setup.

The event will close all traffic lanes/sidewalk areas on Kalakaua Avenue, from Lewers Street to Kaiulani Avenue.

On Saturday morning, the King Kamehameha Floral Parade will shut down roads.

About 6,000 marchers, 50 vehicles, 10 floats and eight bands will march from downtown Honolulu to the Queen Kapiolani Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Sunday evening, the Pan-Pacific Matsuri Waikiki Parade will draw about 2,000 marchers.  It will start at 5 p.m. and end at around 8 p.m.

The parade will start at Kalakaua Avenue and end at Queen Kapiolani Park.
