The drainage canal of Palolo Stream where the body of a man was found Thursday is a known homeless hideout.
The dead man in his 50′s was found in the canal – and nearby residents say he may have been living under the stream bridge.
The homeless camp is a problem that both Honolulu police and the City have been aware of for years.
"They need shelter from the rain so they hide under the bridges, cannot blame them but again it’s not safe, so feel sorry for the whole scenario," said Joe Limasa, who works nearby. "But if you look someone can just walk across that and fall."
Police classified the case as an unattended death, they are investigating if the man fell or slipped.
The City Medical Examiner has not yet released the man’s identity.
