Doctor Tom Apple comes from the University of Delaware where he was provost.
He says the university’s budget is a big concern going forward.
"All universities today are facing challenges and particularly state universities need to find ways of generating new sources of revenue," said Dr. Tom Apple.
He continued and said, "and of course one of the main ones we’re thinking about is dramatically upping our research volume and increasing research grants, but we also want to ask our friends and alumni for support."
Apple says he also wants to make it easier for students to graduate in four years.
He starts work July 1st, 2012.
