U.S. takes title of most powerful supercomputer on the planet

The United States has once again taken the title with the most powerful supercomputer on the planet.

The "IBM Sequoia" at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California can perform 16.32 quadrillion calculations per second.

A quadrillion is a "one" followed by fifteen zeros.

Super computers this powerful are used by the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration to simulate nuclear weapons tests.

Another more powerful computer named "Titan" is being built at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and could go on-line later this year.
