FLASH FLOOD WATCH

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 6am Sunday, Mother’s Day, to 6pm Monday for all islands except the island of Hawai’i, where there is a Winter Weather Advisory for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
The forecast for the next three days is for mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers with the possibility of locally heavy rainfall and the slight chance of Thunderstorms. An upper level low pressure system has parked itself high above the state bringing quite a bit of instability. Add abundant moisture and we have quite a bit of rainfall.  A surface trough developing below the low will slacken the tradewinds and turn them more southeasterly Sunday through Tuesday, bringing more warm moist air and slowing the movement of the rainfall.  Because the ground is already saturated, there is a higher risk of flooding.  Be prepared to take quick action of a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
