Kauai residents urged to conserve water

Press Release:

The Department of Water is issuing an urgent request for Hanapepe and ‘Ele’ele residents and visitors to conserve water and to restrict water consumption to essential uses only due to a broken pipeline in Hanapepe Valley. A primary water source for these areas, the pipeline presumably broke as a result of flood conditions.

Residents are asked to notify their neighbors of this urgent request and encourage their participation.

Water conservation efforts by residents and visitors will reduce the likelihood of a water outage in the area.

Water conservation measures include: refraining from car washing; reducing outdoor irrigation; and using water wisely indoors and outdoors.

Essential needs includes: cooking; bathing; and toilet flushing.

The Department of Water would like to thank Hanapepe and ‘Ele’ele residents and visitors for conserving water during this time and for their patience as the department works on repairing the line.

For more information, please call the Department of Water at 245-5455 during business hours, 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, or Police Dispatch at 241-1711 after business hours.
