Hawaii to get 46 new 7-Eleven locations

HONOLULU (AP) – 7-Eleven expects to add 46 Hawaii locations over five years, almost doubling the convenience store’s presence across the state.

7-Eleven Hawaii president and CEO Greg Hanna said Monday the additions would bring locations on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island to 100 while adding about 870 jobs.

A Japan company owns the trademark and licenses for 41,000 stores nationwide.

Most of the U.S. mainland locations are franchised while the Hawaii stores are under the corporation.

Unique to Hawaii locations are local food items including musubi, rice and meat such as hot dogs, chicken or Spam wrapped in dried seaweed.

Hanna says those local food items were introduced at the 24-hour stores in 1995.

Hanna says the first location opened on Oahu in 1978.
