A University of Hawaii football player charged with drunk driving pleaded not guilty Monday morning.
Reid Alema Tachibana was arrested last month near the intersection of Likelike Highway and Kamehameha IV Road in Kalihi.
He’s a backup linebacker for the Warriors and played for Kahuku High School.
Tachibana was not there for the court hearing but his attorney entered the not guilty plea.
"It’s not necessary. It’s rare that any of my clients ever show up for a DUI arraignment because it’s just not necessary and the rules permit us to waive our client’s presence,” said Patrick McPherson, Tachibana’s attorney.
Tachibana is one of three UH football players arrested for DUI within a span of four months.
He’s been suspended from team related activities until the case is resolved.
