Next year’s federal judges conference in California cancelled

Under pressure from lawmakers federal judges of the 9th circuit have cancelled an annual conference scheduled to be held in California next year.

They are still coming to Maui next month for this year’s conference.

But Republican Senators Jeff Sessions of Alabama and Chuck Grassley of Iowa want this year’s conference cancelled as well.

Jeff Sessions stated, "We are in the worst financial crisis in this nation’s history. Every department and agency needs to cut back and that includes the courts."

Former Hawaii governor and Republican Senate candidate Linda Lingle responded to them in a letter saying quote:

"An event such as the 9th circuit court of appeals’ planned conference on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii is usually booked years in advance and many people and businesses will be hurt if it is cancelled."
