Officer found not guilty in overtime scam

A Honolulu police officer implicated in an overtime abuse investigation has been found not guilty.

Officer Michael Krekel was on trial for tampering with government records.

At issue were his police reports that said two sergeants were at a drunk driving checkpoint.

Officer Krekel said he relied on his supervisors to provide that information, and he did not know they were not there.

The two sergeants are also facing charges, along with two other officers.

Last week, a jury found another officer not guilty of similar charges.
