University of Hawaii’s acting athletic director, Rockne Freitas says he will not be a candidate for the permanent position.
Freitas is UH vice president for student affairs and he told KHON2 Sports that he will remain as vice president.
Freitas has served as AD since July. He stepped in for Jim Donovan after he was placed on indefinite paid administrative leave for the botched Stevie Wonder concert. Jim Donovan returned to "university duty" Monday. But not as athletics director. There is still no word on what specific title Donovan will hold. Tom Apple, the chancellor, said that UH will conduct a national search for Donovan’s replacement.
