Hawaii student places in international science fair

One of Hawaii’s brightest students returned to the islands after taking one of the top prizes in an International Science Fair in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Saint Andrew’s Priory senior Connie Liu took fourth place at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Her project showed how triangles can be a useful tool in facial recognition technology.

"The features such as the corners of the eyes and some points of the face will be comprise the triangle and triangle centers will be an identifying point for individuals," Liu said.

You can read up on her theory in the Encyclopedia of Triangle Centers.

Two of Liu’s classmates also received awards for their work in creating a bladeless wing turbine.
