So he moved on to Sunday night’s finale for a chance to win the $50,000 prize.
"I’m Sam Choy, bringing it home to the people of Hawaii," he said. "I”m leaving everything on the table."
Sam was up against three other chefs from the mainland who were also episode champions so the competition was extremely tough.
The show is divided into three rounds appetizer, entree, and dessert.
Each course has a basket with mystery ingredients. Their task is to use all the ingredients. The dishes are judged on presentation, taste and creativity.
Sam made it past the appetizer round.
Then for the entree round, they had 30 minutes to prepare a dish using standing rib roast, guava paste, smoked mozzarella and bok choy.
Who’s dish is on the chopping block? Chef Sam Choy, you’ve been chopped.
In the end Chef Ernest Servantes of Texas won the $50,000 cash prize and was named the best griller in the West.
He says he plans to invest the money in his children’s college funds.
