Kauai officials reopen Waimea Canyon Drive after brushfire

Kauai County officials have reopened Waimea Canyon Drive Tuesday morning as the Kokee fire is now 70% contained.

Kokee Road remains closed until further notice.

The blaze, which began late Thursday night, has scorched roughly 3,000 acres along the Pokii, Paua and Waiaka ridges.

The Department of Water continues to request that Kekaha residents limit water consumption to essential uses only until power can be restored to a water storage tank that services the area.

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) says utility crews continue to repair damaged power lines.

Power is expected to be fully restored by Wednesday.

Kauai fire personnel remain at the scene to assist the State Department of Land and Natural Resources in extinguishing the fire.
