Board of Regents, Shane Victorino vs. Giants, UH Soccer

After a marathon-like seven hour quarterly executive session in Kaneohe today, the University of Hawai’i Board of Regents revealed that it fully supports the school’s decision to remove Jim Donovan as Athletics Director.

Prior to the closed door meeting, regents accepted a letter in support of Donovan’s re-instatement as A.D. The letter was signed by nine neighbor island legislators to go along with in-person public testimony.

However, in a statement released by the regents this evening the board backed the move of Donovan to the Chancellor’s office with the working title of Director of External Affairs and Community Relations. The statement also went on to say that the investigation into the failed Stevie Wonder concert showed a failure of management in the Athletics Department.

At this time, Rockne Freitas Remains as the acting Athletics Director. Chancellor Tom Apple has said that the school plans to launch a national search for a permanent A.D. in the near future.
