Liver transplant recipient gives birth despite health challenges

A Manoa woman who was granted the gift of life from an anonymous organ donor has now given the gift of life to a new baby girl.

39-year-old Sarah Chee was diagnosed with liver disease three years ago.

Prior to being diagnosed, she and her husband had tried for years to conceive, but had trouble because of her poor health.
In 2010 she underwent a liver transplant.
It also helped her to regain her health and eventually little Alexandria Chee was born.

"I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for organ donation. I wouldn’t be sitting here and have this opportunity," Chee says.

Being a transplant recipient, Sarah’s pregnancy was considered high risk.

However both mother and baby are doing fine.
