A judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the Kalihi man accused of killing his adoptive mother.
Charlie Hernane made his first court appearance Monday.
His attorney asked for and was granted a mental health evaluation.
Hernane is accused of killing Teresita Hernane who was found dead inside her Kalihi home.
The psychiatric evaluation will take place over the next month.
