University of Hawaii sports bid aloha to "The Home Team"

Sunday, when the Rainbow baseball team pulled out a dramatic one run victory over San Jose State, it not only marked the ending of Hawaii’s home schedule, it marked the ending of Hawaii’s home coverage on the "Home Team".

K-5 AND KHNL, which has carried University of Hawaii sports for the better part of three decades is relinquishing the contract rights to do so to Oceanic next season.

So what of the broadcast team that’s been there from the inaugural broadcasts of UH baseball in 1980, Jim Leahey and Pal Eldredge.

What does the future have in store for them.

I sat down with pops and pal in this edition of the 76 Premium Profile.

The NBA’s Western Conference Finals tipped off tonight in Dallas.

Mavs and Thunder, and it was an old-fashioned Texas "shootout", but the guy doing the most prolific "shooting", Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki.

He went for 48, and set an NBA playoff record by going a perfect 24-for-24 from the free throw line.

Mavs take game one, 121-112.

Game two is Thursday.

14-year-old Nick Gilbert, the son of Cavs owner Dan Gilbert was the good luck charm on hand to represent the Cavs in the NBA’s draft lottery today. Nick, who suffers from a nerve disorder and the rest of the Cleveland fans got the number-one pick in the upcoming NBA draft, June 23.

Cavs last had the top pick in 2003, when they selected Lebron James.
