Volunteers help transform park in Waikiki

Last weekend we had a story about volunteers cleaning up a park in Waikiki and prepping a wall for a mural. And Saturday morning the mural was unveiled.

The owl represents the Battle of the Owls in Waikiki with the idea of forgiveness.

People who live in this area say this park at the corner of Kuhio and Liliuokalani Avenue was known as the blight of waikiki. But that’s no longer the case.

"It’s basically turned into this by fundraising and by various corporations around Waikiki, and just volunteers. It’s incredible how it took off. And it was just trying to do something positive as a member in the community," said Waikiki resident Melody Young.

Honolulu police teamed up with 808 Urban for this project.
