Big Island police are seeking witnesses to an armed robbery Tuesday night in a parking lot near Kona Community Hospital.
A 22 year old woman said she had been sitting in her car when a man approached, pointed a gun at her, and demanded her valuables.
Police say the victim gave the suspect her purse, which was valued at $150 including contents. The suspect then fled toward Haukapila Road in the makai direction.
The suspect was described as 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds with a thin build. He was wearing dark long pants, a dark hooded sweatshirt and a red bandanna, which covered his lower face. A red SUV was seen traveling in the makai direction on Haukapila Road at the time the suspect fled. Police would like to speak to the driver or any other potential witnesses.
Police ask that anyone with any information on the incident call Detective Tyson Matsumura at 326-4646, ext. 277, or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
