The state broke ground today on a new phase of work to widen Kaumualii Highway on Kauai.
The first segment created two new lanes in addition to bike lanes and sidewalks.
Crews are now moving on to phase two which includes the construction of a new bridge next to the Lihue Mill Bridge and the widening of Rice Street.
The project is expected to be done by the middle of 2015.
