Nearly 300 Hawaii-based sailors were deployed Friday morning.
The guided missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton is headed to the Western Pacific to conduct security and defense operations.
Those on board will be deployed for 10 months.
The ship and its crew will focus on anti-air warfare and anti-submarine and surface warfare.
Sailors are expected back next July after visiting the Western Pacific and US Central Command.
