American heroes missing in action honored

It’s a day to honor American heroes who made it through the unimaginable.

America paused Friday to honor prisoners of war and those still listed as missing in action.

There is no more appropriate place to honor American heroes than here at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl…

"It is indeed humbling for a boy who attended Roosevelt High School in the valley beside us. Humbling for a lad who lived on Prospect Street, a road that runs just outside the rim of the Punchbowl. Indeed it is with great humility that I return to the islands and stand here on this sacred ground," said William Reeder.

Honoring heroes like William Reeder, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for nearly a year.

September 21st is a day America pauses to honor former prisoners of war and those missing in action.

"It is a day too to recognize and appreciate the sacrifice of those P.O.W-M.I.A families. Families that endured months, and often years their loved ones were held captive, or listed as missing," said Reeder.

Veterans groups placed wreaths to honor P.O.W – M.I.A.

Col. Gene Castagnetti with the U.S.M.C. Said, "Your stories are bonded with dignity, with honor, character, and hope that transcends the inhuman experience that you were exposed too."

"In truth however everyday this nation carries on as a free democracy is a tribute to your courage and to your tenacity," said Point P.O.W – M.I.A Accounting Command, Johnie Webb.
