Two rescued after being swept into waters off Keokea Point

A 9-year-old boy and a man in his 30s were rescued Sunday morning after a wave surge swept them into waters off Keokea Point on the Big Island.

Big Island Fire crews say when they got on scene, the boy was found on some rocks near the shoreline. Officials say he had been pulled up from the water by a bystander.

Fire officials say the man was still in the water when they arrived on scene. He was airlifted by helicopter back to land.

The two victims were then taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment.
