Democratic Congresswoman Mazie Hirono announced Thursday her candidacy for U.S. Senate.
Hirono is currently serving her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. She serves Hawaii’s second congressional district.
The U.S. Senate seat is currently held by Senator Dan Akaka who announced he is retiring in 2012.
In April, Ed Case threw his hat into the 2012 U.S. Senate race.
