Raw wastewater spills off Kaumualii Highway in Hanapepe

Kauai wastewater personnel are currently responding to a sewage spill that occurred Tuesday morning along the shoulder of Kaumualii Highway near the Hanapepe fire and pump stations.

According to Kauai County officials, the spill was reported at approximately 6:50 a.m., and is estimated to be between 50 and 100 gallons of raw wastewater.

Hana Road is temporarily closed to allow pumper trucks and contractors unhindered access to the affected area.

Wastewater officials are continuing to assess the situation and have not yet determined the cause of the spill.
