The guided missile frigate USS Reuben James began its final deployment from Pearl Harbor on Wednesday morning.
The ship and its crew will be on an independent seven month deployment to the Western Pacific to provide maritime security near vital sea lanes.
The Reuben James joined the Navy in 1986 and along with its quarter-century of distinguished military service also appeared in the movie The Hunt for Red October.
The frigate will be decommissioned next summer.
