No matter what your health needs might be as a senior, it’s a good idea at this time of year to review your health care plan. SAGE Plus is encouraging seniors to do just that between now and December 7th.
"It’s always good every fall because the plans change. We may have new plans coming in. This year, we don’t have any new health plans coming in. We have a couple of new drug plans," says Pam Cunningham of SAGE Plus.
An important element of that health care plan review is prescription medications.
"If I have some new prescriptions this year, and I might to see if there’s a plan where it’s going to be more affordable for 2013, and then if I’ve had any health issues in the year where I’ve had to go to the hospital or use the ambulance, I might want to look at a comprehensive plan so I’m going to pay the least money out of pocket," Cunningham says.
Cunningham says the seven or so health care providers stay in close contact with SAGE plus and with their clients.
"They let us know what’s happening, they let their clients, their members know what’s happening. A lot of folks will be getting a lot of mail this coming month because marketing started on October 1st," she says.
In the past, SAGE plus gave seniors until the end of the year to make decisions about their health care plans – but this year is different.
"So the new enrollment period is October 15th to December 7th. But we really encourage people to do it before thanksgiving because it seems like that day after Thanksgiving, everything just flies by until the end of the year. We don’t want people to miss an opportunity," Cunningham says.
The state enjoys the acknowledgment of being a five star program when it comes to senior health car programs.
