DOT to continue inspections near area where boulders fell onto freeway

Crews from the Department of Transportation were out in Moanalua Friday, inspecting the area from where a boulder rolled onto the freeway.

Around 6:45 p.m. Thursday night, several east-bound lanes of the freeway near the Puuloa off-ramp had to be shut down.

Officials say a large boulder fell from the hillside and then broke into several large pieces.

Police say a truck hit one of the rocks. The driver was not injured, however the vehicle was severely damaged and had to be towed.

DOT crews inspected the area and found it safe to reopen the road, but say say more inspections will have to be done in the area.
