HPD: Serial robber may be on the loose

Honolulu police are concerned they may have a serial robber on their hands.

A suspect wearing similar clothing has been described in a number of armed robberies.

Some workers in Waikiki are on edge.

"I can’t really believe it because it is happening in Waikiki. Waikiki is the safest place in Hawaii I believe. So it is kind of scary," Waikiki employee Mariko Mori said.

It’s scary because Lono’s Hawaiian Jewelery, just a few doors down, was held up by an armed gunman on Wednesday night.

"It happened at 11 p.m. There are fewer people around there in Waikiki," Mori said.

Mori says she feels safer because she works during the day.

Crimestoppers has released a sketch of the suspect.

"[A man] in his 20′s, six feet, about 150 pounds, brown hair with a black hoodie, gray pants, and shoes. We don’t know if this is the same person, but the descriptions are very similar. We would like to ask the public for their help," HPD Sgt. Kim Buffett said.

Police are suspicious that this suspect has struck other places.

"We have had several cases. I believe there are about seven cases where there is a person with a black hoodie robbing these stores. So any help is appreciated," Buffett said.

Anyone with information that could identify the suspect is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
