The state is allowing hunters on the Big Island to shoot Axis Deer as a way to control its population on the island.
The Board of Land and Natural Resources approved a declaration that allows licensed hunters to shoot Axis Deer without a special permit.
There will also be no restrictions for season or bag limit.
"We ask all of the public hunters on hawaii island to help us eradicate any access deer that they see because the potential for economic harm on the big island vastly outweighs any benefits," said William Ala with the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Axis deer are considered a threat to agriculture, native plants and wildlife.
