Lane closures to begin Tuesday on Ward Avenue

A Honolulu road project aimed to replace decades-old water lines on Ward Avenue has been pushed back a day.

Road work for the Board of Water Supply project is set to begin Tuesday morning.

Drivers can expect lane closures along Ward Avenue from Kapiolani Boulevard up towards Kinau Street.

"The Ward project was supposed to begin today, but the contractor experienced some delays in getting their signs up last week," BWS spokesman Kurt Tsue said. "We really want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to use an alternate route around the area if possible before before we start doing any excavation."

Work is expected to last from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes if possible.

The BWS says the project will enhance water service and reduce the likelihood of water main breaks in the area.
