A man who beat another man to death in the parking lot of a Manoa church was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Wednesday.
David Orpin was convicted of manslaughter in August for the 2009 attack that left a 70-year-old homeless man dead.
"Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in elders that are homeless being targeted for abuse. This is an extreme case where David Orpin beat to death this homeless individual," Honolulu prosecutor Scott Spallina said.
Police were alerted to the killing when Orpin turned himself in and admitted he killed the other man.
