Honolulu police have reopened all lanes on the H-1 Freeway after a garbage truck crashed into the median in Pearl City Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. when an empty garbage truck heading eastbound slammed into the median prior to the Aiea exit.
The truck was wedged into the zipper lane.
The truck driver, believed to be a man in his 30s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
Road crews used a crane to remove the garbage truck from the zipper lane.
All lanes of the freeway were reopened around 9 p.m.
The garbage truck belongs to Rainbow Waste Services, LLC.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
The zipper lane is expected to be open for morning rush hour.
