Hawaii is in for a treat at the Annual Splendor of China Cultural Festival this weekend. The featured performers will bring a unique blend of cultural diversity.
They are known as the Yunnan Hoghezhou Performing Arts Troupe, coming from the Southwestern part of the country, near the borders of Vietnam and Thailand. The costumes alone demonstrate some of that. But their dance also has similarities with other parts of the world.
The group is unique because it consists of minority artists representing the different ethnic groups in the Yunnan province. So their performance is unlike anything that’s ever been brought to Hawaii.
"The dancing performance that we will bring to the Hawaii community represents such cultural diversity and uniqueness and we are hoping that our performance will introduce the beautiful Yunnan to folks in the local community," said Director Jiamin Wang.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii brings in the performers as part of the festival that includes food booths and cooking demonstrations. And the idea is to promote the culture with such eye opening entertainment.
"Hopefully when they leave here they’re just left in awe of all that is great from China and we’re hoping that they’ll consider maybe even visiting," said Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Leonard Kam.
The festival is Saturday and Sunday at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Tickets are $3.00.
